In the late 90s I had a black 91. Loved the sound of the 3.1.
But that v6 drank like a v8 and went like a 4

I recall them being pretty fast for the time... even with the automatic. I drove a friend’s early 1990s V6 Cavalier RS once. Never owned one myself though.

Everything is relative. Especially considering that back then the 8s drank like modern 12s and went like today’s 4s.

Good god were they awful and thank god GM has gotten wildly better with their cars since. i remember these thing being everywhere here in Detroit and it was crazy when someone had a Honda or Toyota because you just said to yourself “the ONLY reason people buy these is the employee discount or because ‘Merica.”

I still like how the body style of that last black one looks.
One time, when I was in high school, we saw one in the grocery parking lot for sale. It was a Z24, and purple, which is awesome. And it said $50. I’m still not sure why we didn’t buy it. My friends wanted to eventually leave it in the river by my friend’s family’s cabin. So we could dive to it.

I agree... in terms of looks, that’s the style that is the best looking z24.

the 2.8 was fast in a diesel way. so long as you kept it under 3500rpm you could accelerate.

Yeah... I recall there not much point in going much beyond 4000rpm or so. Not necessary with all that low-rpm OHV torque.
